We are on BREAK October 9-13!!!! See you back at ZQ on Monday, Oct. 16!
We will be participating in the district’s “Change to make Change” drive to help raise money for the students and teachers in Houston, Texas affected by the hurricane. ALL… 100% of the money will be given to the Houston Intermediate School District to assist schools with any necessary supplies needed so they can continue doing what they love… educating children.
The drive will run October 16-20 for ZQuest. Please bring your loose change all week to your classrooms and we will make sure to pass it along to the district representative! After it’s all counted, we will be super excited to share how much ZPS raised together to help our friends in the Houston Intermediate School District!

Concert: October 12 with the combined groups of 7th/8th grade choir, orchestra and 7th grade band.

What if we are on vacation? Mr. Costello, Mrs. Bier & Mrs. TenElshof tries hard to make sure concerts are not on break weeks, however sometimes he has to go with availability of the auditorium. IF you are on vacation, please email them immediately. IF you are in town, they would really love to have your choir/band/orchestra student in attendance; they’ve been working really hard this term so far for this concert!
Combined Rehearsals are from 10:30-1100 on Monday, Oct. 9 and Wednesday, Oct. 11. Those are the only 2 days they would need them in class next week if possible prior to the concert, obviously if your student can and is willing to go more often, that is highly encouraged and welcome, but they do respect that it is break week for our kids!
It’s Almost BOOKFAIR Time!
Viewing Day will be Monday, October 16-- teachers will take kids to the bookfair to check out what books are available for purchase. They will be able to make a list, including prices, to bring home with them!
Purchasing Days are Tuesday, October 17-Friday, October 20 (until lunch). Each individual teacher has signed up for shopping times, so please refer to your child’s classroom newsletter or teacher email for this in the upcoming week!
Halloween
Halloween celebrations in classrooms will happen on Tuesday, October 31. Each classroom Parent Ambassador will be putting together a variety of activities specific to each grade level. Be on the lookout for a Sign-Up Genius from your child’s teacher/parent ambassador!
Kinder-2nd Grade:

3rd-8th Grade:
*Costumes can be worn all day!
*Parties are at different times throughout the day (please stay tuned to your child’s teacher’s communication for this information)
Halloween Parade
Tuesday, October 31 starting at 2:40pm.
If you come to watch the parade, you may sign your child out at the end of the parade and take them home with you=)

Viewing of SCREENAGERS
The Zeeland Action Coalition is excited to host a free showing of the highly acclaimed movie SCREENAGERS. The movie is recommended for parents and their children ages 10-16 years of age.
It is our hope you will read through the attached flyer and join with the Zeeland Action Coalition in publicizing this free opportunity for our parents as they navigate the teen years with their children.
As parents, children and families find their way through the challenges of screen time and setting healthy boundaries this movie creates an opportunity for further reflection, discussion and conversation around this important topic.
SPORK IT OVER 6th/7th Grade Washington DC Fundraiser!
Looks like there is not enough time this month to be able to pull this fundraiser off. We will NOT GIVE UP on helping make sure any and all kiddos who want to attend this trip in May 2019 are able to! The very approximate cost of Washington DC is $1000 per person. In addition, we are trying to add an extra night and day so that we aren’t on the fly every single day from 7am-11pm!!! If you are a parent of a current 6th or 7th grader, you aren’t going to want to miss helping get this rolling. It WILL benefit YOUR kids directly!!!
WHO HAS EXTRA LEGOS?
We are collecting Lego bricks for our school. Our students will be able to use these for upcoming enrichment activities, and the teachers will also have access to them for classroom use. When we collect enough legos we will put an enrichment class on our calendar. Have your students bring donated legos to Miss Leslie's office September 25-29. Ask your grandparents, neighbors and friends to donate to our school!. Collect all the Legos!

**The Senior Party is selling DUX Logo athletic socks for $10 a pair. You can pick up yours outside the gate at the Varsity football games during pre-game and 1st Quarter. You can also order by text to Kim Smeyers at 616-566-0298. Proceeds go to the Senior All Night Party
The Senior Party is accepting donations of gently used formals and prom dresses for an upcoming fundraiser. You can text Kim Smeyers at 616-566-0298 with questions or to arrange a pick up.
IMPORTANT! What about Volunteering??
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO CHAPERONE OR VOLUNTEER in any way, OR just VISIT at Zeeland Quest...you MUST make sure that you have had a background check online! Please go to https://v2ms.zps.org/Login.aspx and create an account (if you haven’t already). The account you create is good each year, however you MUST update it every year (so put your username and password in a safe place). The alternate is to stop into the office and use the fingerprint sign in on the volunteer computer. Psst! This is the EASIEST way to get this process done!
This is necessary for ALL parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. who want to attend trips or come in to visit! We CANNOT allow you down to our hall without this completed (this is not to be an inconvenience to you, but to keep ALL of our kids safe ALL the time)!
**IMPORTANT** Starting Monday, October 2, if your tag is YELLOW, you will not be permitted past the office, so PLEASE get those background checks in! If a grandparent is coming from out of town, please plan ahead so that they can participate in whatever activity they are coming to school for!
SECURITY NEWS…
*PLEASE make sure that you are CHECKING in at the office BEFORE coming down to the rooms. This MUST be done even if you are only dropping off a lunch or walking your child to their class in the morning. In addition, you MUST wear your printed name tag at all times in the building, making sure it is visible to all teachers and faculty at all times. You will be stopped if you do not have a visible name tag! These are things that we must do in order to keep all of the kids safe! Thank you for your patience and for understanding!
Free and/or Reduced Lunch apps!

If you haven't filled out an application for free and reduced lunch (in most cases this is a yearly renewal and you need to reapply), there is still time to do so! Even if you don't think you will qualify, filling out the application helps the school by providing us with additional funding from the government. It's simply to apply. Family Fare Receipts
Simply drop your family fare receipts off in the white trash can outside Mrs. Leslie’s office and they will be counted toward reward money that comes back to our school! It’s an easy and simple way for us to earn money by your weekly shopping!
Box Tops
You can sign up to receive coupons and Box Tops extras by going to www.boxtops4education.com. It’s easy to sign up, clip coupons to save at stores and earn money for ZQuest!
A few things to remember BEFORE turning them into school…
*Please look at the expiration date! If the top is expired, please just recycle.
*Please cut the box top out around the dotted perimeter. This helps our parent volunteer in making sure they are all taken care of (imagine the hours it would take to cut everyone’s box tops out?!).
*Please make sure that you place them in a baggie or the collection sheet and label with your child’s name and their teacher’s name!
*PTO is working on a fun classroom challenge, so keep cutting those Box Tops!

**Paper Gator Recycling:
What? Please bring in your newspapers, catalogs/magazines/junk mail/phone books/office-school paper. We cannot take plastic, metal, trash, glass, or cardboard.
Where? In the back of Creekside (Look for “Paper Gator” on the bin)
When? 24-7(drop off anytime)
What will the paper become? The paper will be shredded and processed into hydro-seeding mulch, lawn establishment products, lawn repair products, cat litter, dog litter or small animal bedding. Help us become a greener world!!!! Recycle!!!
